| Research Summary: | The Arizona State Museum is developing a new permanent exhibition on human migration in Arizona and the Southwest from the first evidence of human occupaion of Arizona, ca. 13,000 years ago, to the present. The exhibition will focus on the archaeological record as a wendow into migration. Archeologists have only recently develop the tools to effectively understand the scope of ancient populatin movement. By understanding migration, the exhibition will address the misconceptions of many people that these ancient cultues and people just disappeared. By identifying where these gropuis moved to and connecting them to modern tribes, the exhibition will attempt to dispel the "dissapearance" myths. The perspectives of the indigenous populations of lArizona and that of groups who have migrated historically wil also be presented within the exhibition . The indigenous voice is essential in provinding the perspectives of the groups decendent from many of the archaeological cultures highlighted in the exhibition. |
