| Research Summary: | National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers are the foundation of scientific excellence in cancer research and treatment and are uniquely poised to address the cancer problem in their region and populations. The Arizona Cancer Center proposes to establish a Center for Cancer Health Disparities Research (CCHDR). The CCHDR will combine the strengths and expertise of key departments and colleges that comprise the membership of the AZCC, an NCI-designed Comprehensive Cancer Center. For the purposes of this supplemental funding request, the Administrative Supplement, it is proposed to (1) establish infrastructure support at the AZCC to create a comprehensive CCHDR that is university-state-region wide; (2) develop a strategic plan to create stable, long-term, and effective programs in research, training/education, and community outreach aimed at reducing cancer health disparities in minority and under-served populations in Arizona; (3)establish a network of community physicians and clinics in Arizona serving a large proportion of minority and underserved individuals to facilitate the entry of minority populations into clinical trials; (4) create and empower a community advisory committee to facilitate communication and dissemination of information between the CCHDR and communities throughout Arizona and the Southwest. |
