Research Summary: American Indian/Alaskan Native children have overweight rates that are 18 - 30% higher than the general American population of children. The Primordial Toddler Overweight and Tooth decay prevention Study (PTOTS) would be an overweight/obesity prevention project targeting American Indian children 0-3 years of age. The overall objectives of the PTOTS project are to test whether community and family-based interventions can alter feeding practices (breastfeeding, sugared beverage consumption, timing and type of introduction of solids) and parenting to reduce sedentary lifestyles (delayed introduction of television and creating play opportunities) in Northwest American Indian communities.
Subjects: Obesity, Toddler, Overweight, Northwest American Indian communities
