Assistant Professor of Practice, Physician Assistant Program---School of Health Professions

Dr. Sherron Cook was born and raised in Northern Arizona and completed her undergraduate studies at Northern Arizona University (NAU) in 2001. Before becoming a PA, she served as a clinical coordinator for the National Institutes of Health (NIH)–funded Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study—an experience that strengthened her interest in pursuing a healthcare career. She earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU–ASHS) in 2008 and later completed her Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) degree in 2019.

Dr. Cook has dedicated her career to providing primary care and urgent care family practice services within Indian Health Service, Tribal 638 programs, Urban Indian Health Care organizations, and Federally Qualified Health Centers within her home state of Arizona. Her work reflects a deep commitment to advancing healthcare equity and addressing the health disparities that disproportionately impact Native American communities.

Sherron has served as adjunct faculty with both the ATSU-ASHS and NAU PA programs for several years, beginning with assisting on interview days and later expanding her involvement to proctoring practical exams and reviewing case studies in History & Physical Exam courses. She has also been an advisory council member for the National Center for American Indian Health Professions at ATSU, a center established to build a supportive community for Indigenous students. In that role, she has presented to current and prospective healthcare students on resilience, communication, and American Indian/Alaska Native history.

Dr. Cook is deeply committed to supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals. She hopes that her own passion for higher learning, and her dedication to serving Native American communities, will inspire students on their own journey into the PA profession.
